Plan of Study

80/20 Perinatal & Newborn Nursing Program

This sponsored (80% practice/20% program) study option is designed for nurses currently working with perinatal populations at Nova Scotia Health and allows for work-life balance and autonomy in learning. Online, asynchronous, independent study is supplemented with skills, simulations, and preceptorship/mentorship in the clinical setting. 

The program contains 96 hours of knowledge, 48 hours of skills and simulations, and 144 hours of clinical.

  • Western Zone - Session 1 October 20th & 21st 2026, session 2 December 10th & 11th 2026, session 3 February 4th & 5th 2027
  • Eastern Zone - Session 1 October 22nd & 23rd 2026, session 2 December 3rd & 4th 2026, session 3 February 8th & 9th 2027
  • Northern Zone - Session 1 October 13th & 14th 2026, session 2 November 30th & December 1st 2026, session 3 February 2nd & 3rd 2027

2027 Winter cohort skill & simulation session dates: 

  • Western Zone - Session 1 February 9th & 10th 2027, session 2 March 24th & 25th 2027, session 3 May 4th & 5th 2027
  • Eastern Zone - Session 1 February 1st & 2nd 2027, session 2 March 22nd & 23rd 2027, session 3 April 26th & 27th 2027
  • Northern Zone - Session 1 January 26th & 27th 2027, session 2 March 24th & 25th 2027, session 3 April 28th & 29th 2027
