Plan of Study

Full-Time Foundations in Nephrology Nursing Program

This study option is aimed at ensuring the nurse achieves the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to meet the program competencies. The program is aligned with a transition-to-practice approach that will support the nurse in transferring program competencies into their kidney care practice. Candidates will be enrolled full time in this program and therefore will be removed from the clinical setting aside from clinical shifts associated with the program.

The clinical practicum begins with 1 to 2 observation shifts and allows the progressive integration of theory into practice. The program includes 168 hours of clinical practicum (precepted time) and labs. While every effort is made to provide required clinical learning and lab experiences at the site closest to the learner's home, travel may be required.

Timeline

The program follows a hybrid model that integrates theory, labs, and clinical practicum hours through 7 weeks. There are weekly classes, which may be delivered synchronously or asynchronously.

The Nova Scotia Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers offers education programming designed to meet the needs of learners across the province and strengthen our health care system. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-informed programming that enables providers to develop and maintain foundational and specialty competencies.
