Perioperative Nursing Program

Shelley Haynes, RN, BScN

Shelley joined the Learning Institute team in 2020 as Nurse Educator for the Perioperative Nursing Program (PONP). Shelley holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Dalhousie University. She is completing a Master's in Health Studies at Athabasca University. Shelley began her health care career nursing in the emergency department at Dartmouth General Hospital and after two years joined the DGH Surgical Suites staff as a PACU and OR nurse.

Shelley is a lifelong learner and has a passion for nursing education. Her last position was Clinical Nurse Educator for the Victoria General and Dartmouth General Hospital operating rooms.

Shelley is excited to be part of the PONP faculty, providing nurses with the specialized knowledge, skills, and clinical experience required to consolidate learning and develop competence in the operating room environment.

When not at work, Shelley enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, hiking, camping, and travelling abroad.

Jocelyne Granger, RN, CPN(C)

Jocelyne has been faculty with the Perioperative Nursing Program at the Learning Institute since 2011. Jocelyne also adds a noteworthy 30 years of Canada-wide practice to the collective experience. Working in emergency, critical care and perioperative areas have strongly informed and enhanced Jocelyne’s work at the Learning Institute. As faculty in the Perioperative Programs offered at the Learning Institute she continues to strive for excellence in teaching current and future perioperative nurses.

She spends her free time travelling with her family.

Niki Deneault, RN, BScN

Niki joined the Learning Institute as a Nursing Instructor with the Perioperative Nursing Program in the fall of 2022. Niki has her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alberta, Perioperative Nursing certificate from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and has completed a course in Adult Education.

Niki is very passionate about operating room nursing, continuing education, and is looking forward teaching the perioperative nurses of the future.

When not at work, Niki enjoys camping, biking, and travelling with her husband and two children.

Brittany Clancey, RN, BScN

Brittany joined the Learning Institute as an Instructor I/II for the Perioperative Nursing Program in the winter of 2023. Brittany graduated from Dalhousie University with a BScN in 2012. Her career started in acute care on Cardiac Surgery at the Halifax Infirmary. Additionally, she spent some time working in long term care. Her operating room experience began in 2015 at the Dartmouth General Hospital, where she spent most of her time working in orthopedics. With that, she helped develop and implement the orthopedic team lead role. Brittany has been practicing as an orthopedic team lead for the last 5 years. Her experience leading in this service has shaped her love for teaching, implementing new technologies and empowering other leaders.

Brittany was an active participant in the redevelopment/expansion project at the Dartmouth General Hospital with emphasis on orthopedics. She helped with the transition of new surgeons and, most recently, the roll out of robotic total joint surgery. Brittany is passionate about perioperative nursing and looks forward to guiding learners in their progression to perioperative practice.

When Brittany is not at work, she loves to run, hike, cook, listen to music, read, travel and spend time with her husband, family and friends.
