Potential Learners – thinking about taking one of our programs?

Our online programs are a great way to learn while balancing work and other commitments.  Online learning provides more control over the time, place, and pace of your learning when compared with more traditional educational delivery.

However, not everyone may have previous experience with online learning. You need to know what to expect before entering into an online program of study.

Success in online learning hinges upon your ability to be self-directed and self-disciplined; to be organized and manage your time effectively, and to maintain a high level of motivation throughout the entire program. In addition, above average reading, writing, communication, and computer skills are essential in order to be a successful online learner.

Is Online Learning Right for Me?

If you can answer “yes” to most of these 10 statements, then learning online is probably a good option for you:

  1. I am motivated to take this course/program and will take responsibility for my own learning.
  2. I am organized and able to manage my time in order to meet deadlines.
  3. I have reliable access to a computer with an up-to-date web browser and a high-speed internet connection (click here for computer requirements).
  4. I am skilled in the use of computers (emailing, using word processing software, web browsers, managing files – uploading/downloading).
  5. I have highly developed reading and writing abilities.
  6. I am comfortable expressing my ideas and opinions in writing.
  7. I am comfortable working independently and in a group.
  8. I am comfortable asking for help when needed.
  9. I have access to a study space that is free of distractions.
  10. I can devote 6 to 10 hours a week to my course work.

Online Learning and More

Some of our programs also have face-to-face skills labs and simulation sessions that will help you transfer your online learning to real-life scenarios.  It is important to keep in mind that you are not on your own while participating in online learning. Program faculty, as well as other learners, are an important part of your success in the program.
