Perinatal and Newborn Nursing Program

The NS Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers is excited to announce the launch of the Perinatal and Newborn Nursing Program!  The online content, along with zonally delivered in-person skills, simulations, and clinical shifts, breaks down geographical barriers for this specialty practice area. The program combines knowledge content from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)’s Perinatal Orientation and Education Program (POEP) along with Nova Scotian and Canadian specific content.  Skills and simulation sessions are dispersed throughout the content to assist learners to apply the new knowledge and skills.  Preceptored or mentored clinical shifts ensure nurses new to the practice area have the necessary competencies to provide evidence informed, high quality, safe and effective care to perinatal & newborn patients and families.
