Family Practice Nursing Program – New and Revised
The Family Practice Nursing Program has undergone curricular revisions to shorten the program’s length and increase the number of graduates per year. Previously 16 weeks in length and offered as a part time model, the program has been revised to make it a 12 week full time program with a cohort size of twenty, to be offered three times yearly. This newly revised program includes roles-based competencies, increased skills and simulation time, and revised assessments.
Increasing the number of family practice nurses in the system expands primary care access for all Nova Scotians. It is reported that each family practice nurse provides up to 400 patients with access to primary care, which eases the pressure on other areas of the health care system.
