Plan of Study

Part-Time Neonatal Orientation Education Program

This study option is designed for nurses currently working with perinatal populations at Nova Scotia Health and allows for work-life balance and autonomy in learning. Online, independent study is supplemented with mentorship in the clinical setting.

The program begins with extrauterine adaptation of the neonate, individual system assessment and complications and neonatal loss. The program includes 54 hours of content delivered over a 40-week period.

This represents a general timeline for the program. The exact delivery model may vary between offerings.

  • 15 modules divided into 5 sessions (3–4 weeks each) delivered through AWHONN online education platform
  • Testing on completion of each module
  • Independent, online study (approximately 3–4 hours per week)
