Barbara Fagan, BScN, MEd, RN, CCNE, CCCI, CCSNE, CHSE, CNCC(C)
Barb is passionate about many things: lifelong learning, interprofessional practice and learning, simulation learning, and collaborative person-centered care. In 2018, she completed her Master of Education in Curricular Studies for Health Interprofessionals at Acadia University. The focus of her master’s work was on deliberate practice for skills mastery learning. Barb has been faculty with the Learning Institute for over 15 years in a variety of roles: nurse educator with the Critical Care Nursing Program, worked collaboratively on the design and initial pilot delivery of the Critical Care Paramedic Program, nurse educator for simulation learning, worked collaboratively on the design and delivery of the Interprofessional Simulation Facilitation Course, and served as the Professional Practice Leader for a two year term. Barb is excited to transition to her new role as nurse educator for curriculum at the Learning Institute.
Barb is a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) BLS instructor. She maintains a number of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN)’s Nurse Educator Institute certifications as well as being a certified healthcare simulation educator (CHSE) from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and continues to hold certification in adult critical care nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association. Barb is adjunct faculty with Dalhousie University’s School of Nursing, and in 2019, Barb was awarded the Excellence in Nursing Education Award from the College of Registered Nurses in Nova Scotia (CRNNS).
With that being said, Barb fully understands the work, school and life balance that occurs in adult learners. Barb loves to travel, scrapbook memories, and spend time with her family.
