Overview
The Perinatal and Newborn Nursing Program (PNNP) provides specialty education for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) working in the perinatal and newborn care settings.
This competency based program includes content from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) - Perinatal Orientation Education Program (POEP), Canadian/Nova Scotian specific content, skills, simulation, and clinical experiences at Nova Scotian perinatal clinical units. This program supports RNs and LPNs to provide evidence informed, high-quality, safe, and effective perinatal and newborn care across the province of Nova Scotia.
The program involves sixteen modules/lessons across the perinatal & newborn care continuum - from reproduction, conception, labour, delivery to postpartum and newborn care. Please see the Plan of Study for more information about program structure and content.
Requirements
- RNs and LPNs with active practicing licensure from the Nova Scotia College of Nurses.
- Approval from a Nova Scotia Health Perinatal and Newborn Nursing Manager to confirm a clinical seat and sponsorship for the program.
