Dave recently joined the Learning Institute in a new role as a Paramedic Educator. He completed an undergraduate degree from Saint Mary's University focused on English and History and immediately began pursuing his long-standing passion for prehospital care. He is an Advanced Care Paramedic, working the last 10 years largely in Halifax with ground ambulance operations. During that time Dave has continuously precepted paramedic students and new employees. He gets a great deal of satisfaction in watching and guiding their professional development. Through his career he has always had a deep interest in the management of high acuity patient presentations, but has cultivated an equal interest in the value of preventative medicine through educating patients and their families at the point of care.
Dave is also passionate about advancing the Paramedic profession. He volunteers his time to sit on CPNS Hearing committee, as a research appraiser for the Prehospital Evidenced Based Practice program, and is a co-lead in founding the Nova Scotia Paramedic Professional Association.
