Administrative Support

Danielle Smith

Danielle has been with Nova Scotia Health since 2016 and joined the Nova Scotia Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers in October of 2019. She provides admin support to the Learning Institute’s three managers.

Danielle graduated from Medical Transcription at NSCC in 2015 and she has continuously expanded her knowledge and skill, taking every educational opportunity available. She is currently working on her leadership skills through University of Waterloo.

Outside of work, Danielle enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, but most importantly her beautiful niece.

Amanda Lundrigan

Amanda joined the Learning Institute in 2022 and brings with her 20+ years of customer service skills after recently graduating from a Medical Office Administration Program. Amanda supports the administrative needs of the RN Bridging/Re-Entry Program where her propensity to connect with people and enthusiasm for helping others are invaluable to her role.

Outside of work, Amanda is a strong advocate for women’s self-defense. She holds her second degree black belt in ITF taekwon-do and is an assistant instructor. Amanda has two young children who adore all things outdoors. If you don’t find them in the dojang, they are at the horse barn, going to the cottage, or finding a new beach to explore.

Amy de Gannes

Amy joined the Learning Institute in 2022, providing administrative support to the specialty programs before joining the RN Bridging/Re-Entry team in her current role as a Program Administrative Officer.

Coming from a military family, Amy has lived in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Ontario over the years, but has always considered Halifax to be home. She studied at both NBCC and NSCC and had been working as an Event Coordinator for several years before COVID.

Although she’s not a fan of flying, Amy is excited to do more travelling in the future. She has family living in Trinidad and Grenada and can’t wait for her next tropical getaway.

Outside of work, Amy enjoys reading, beach days with her husband, and working on costume designs for next Halloween!

Heather Tingley

Heather joined the Learning Institute in 2023 and brings with her 20+ years of administrative and customer service skills. She completed a Medical Terminology course in 2021, and she is very eager to learn more and loves helping others. Heather provides administrative support to the specialty programs at the Learning Institute.

Outside of work, Heather enjoys gardening and is very passionate for her love of animals. She also enjoys being active, doing yoga, and loves the outdoors. Heather enjoys reading and could spend hours browsing the library. Heather has two children who are grown, and she loves to spend time with them whenever possible.

Rasheil Reyes

Rasheil is a licensed Civil Engineer in the Philippines and has completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Business Management — International Business from Lambton College in Mississauga, Ontario.

Rasheil is originally from the Philippines, but most of her administrative job experience was in Singapore. Here in Canada, she worked as a Hotel Front Desk Agent and Breakfast Supervisor before joining the Learning Institute admin team in April 2023.

In her free time, Rasheil loves having new adventures with her husband and two daughters. Together, they make more memories by exploring the beautiful places of Nova Scotia and other provinces of Canada.

Emma Skelton

 

Emma joined the Learning Institute in the summer of 2023 following her graduation from Mount Allison University with a BA Honours in Psychology. She focused her thesis on health education, specifically in the area of sexual violence prevention and rejection resiliency.

She is originally from Maine in the US, but she relocated to New Brunswick for school before settling in Halifax post-grad. She is very passionate about education, especially in health-related topics, and is excited to provide administrative support to the Learning Institute.

Outside of the office, Emma enjoys going on walks with her partner to explore their new city. She loves spending time at the library, trying new cafes, and enjoying the ocean breeze at the harbour front.

Amanda Long

 

Amanda has been with Nova Scotia Health since 2014 and brings with her 20+ years of administration and customer service experience. She completed a Medical Administration course in 2014 and has had multiple jobs within the Nova Scotia Health since, where she has developed and mastered many different skills. She is always looking for opportunities to learn new skills and improve on others. Amanda joined the Learning Institute in the fall of 2023 and enjoys supporting the administrative needs of the specialty programs.

Amanda has a passion for health and safety and has played a large role in JOHSC in her previous roles. Also a Steward for NSGEU Local 1246, she loves being able to help fellow administrative professionals. We are stronger together.

When not at work, Amanda can be found with her partner and their dogs. Amanda also enjoys spending time with her adult son who she is extremely proud of. She loves time spent outdoors, but also enjoys curling up inside with a good book. Her interests include camping, canoeing, swimming, four wheeling, gardening, and bonfires to wrap up the day.

April MacKenzie

 

April has been with Nova Scotia Health since 2002 and joined the Learning Institute in January 2024 to provide administrative support to the RN Bridging/Re-Entry Program. April brings 20+ years of administration experience and numerous skillsets acquired throughout her career.

Originally from Newfoundland, April relocated to Nova Scotia after high school. She attended college in Truro, receiving an Accounting Business Administration Diploma, an Office Management Diploma, and a Medical Office Assistant Certificate.

In addition to her full-time regular work, April is a military reservist who has 20+ years in uniform as a Cadet Instructor Cadre officer and works with the Royal Canadian Cadet Program.

In her free time, she enjoys fitness activities, travelling — especially home to “The Rock” — and having adventures with her husband and two daughters.
