Perinatal Orientation Education Program

Jessica Waye, RN, BScN, MN, IBCLC

Jessica joined the Learning Institute faculty in 2022 as a Nurse Educator supporting Women and Children’s Health Programs (Perinatal Orientation Education Program, Neonatal Orientation Education Program and Pediatric Learning Solutions Program). Jessica holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Saint Francis Xavier University and Master of Nursing with teaching focus from Athabasca University. Jessica is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and passionate about providing evidenced based and family centred care rooted strongly from the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI). Jessica has worked with Cape Breton University School of Nursing as a Clinical Nursing Instructor supporting student clinical placements in the medical\surgical and obstetrical settings. Whether in the classroom or clinical setting, Jessica strongly believes in creating a supportive and positive learning environment for novice and experienced nurses, assisting the translation of knowledge to practice.

Jessica is a lifelong learner and has a passion for nursing education. Her last position was Clinical Nurse Educator with Interprofessional Practice and Learning for Women and Children’s (W&C) Health, Eastern Zone Nova Scotia.

Jessica is excited to join the innovative team at the Learning Institute, providing nurses with the specialized knowledge, skills, and clinical experience required to support and develop competence in the W&C health care environment.

Jessica is married to her husband, Joe, and has a little girl, age 3, both of whom fill their home with laughter daily. When not at work, you can find her at the many beaches Cape Breton has to offer or spending time with great friends.

Danielle Hillman, RN, BScN, IBCLC

Danielle has been a Registered Nurse since 2014, having received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cape Breton University. Her professional journey began in Obstetrics and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Cape Breton, where she discovered a profound passion for working with the perinatal and neonatal populations. Danielle's career has allowed her many rewarding opportunities for professional growth, ranging from providing direct patient care to assuming various leadership positions working within Perinatal and Neonatal. In more recent years, Danielle has had the opportunity to support health care providers across Nova Scotia caring for perinatal and neonatal patients and is excited to continue doing so with the Learning Institute as Perinatal Nursing Instructor IV.

Dedicated to professional growth and being a lifelong learner, Danielle has embraced being a mentor to colleagues, is an instructor for numerous professional courses, and is currently pursuing a Master of Nursing through Athabasca University. Danielle is dedicated to supporting nursing education and values having a supportive, innovative, and compassionate approach to her teaching. Along with being a Registered Nurse, Danielle is an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Outside her professional endeavors, Danielle enjoys spending time with her son and husband and their family/friends. When not enjoying all the beauty Cape Breton has to offer, Danielle enjoys travelling to explore other areas of the world!
